Welcome to the CYYZ Street Festival 2011

Community Day at the Airport

The wonderful folks at Toronto Pearson invited all of us to attend the first annual Community Day with a Street Festival on the airfield. They asked us to drop by on September 17, 2011, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and join them for a free, unique, family-friendly event. We got an opportunity to learn what happens between check-in and takeoff, and to find out how Toronto Pearson plans to grow into North America’s Premier Gateway.

Here were some of the Activities:

- Meet the people who help keep TP running smoothly and work hard to meet the needs of our guests.

- Get your groove on as a bill of local dance and musical groups perform on our Community Stage. Performance times: 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

- Drive alongside airplanes during our guided Airside Bus Tours.

- Children can enjoy face painting and games in our Kid Zone.

- Pack the ideal carry-on, piece together Toronto Pearson’s brand new logo, and answer airport-related trivia in our Ultimate Airport Obstacle Course.

I spent Saturday at Toronto Pearson International Airport's first annual Street festival. The "streets" were the runways and the day was wonderful. If the sky had been clearer my shots would be better but I did my best. The heat haze off so much asphalt didn't help the photogaphy but, I am not complaining. We spent the day on the de-icing pads (not required in Toronto in the summer, go figure) looking at planes and equipment. They had a Fed Ex Boeing 757 on the pad and the pilot was nice enough to snap my photo in his seat. We had an amazing 30 minute bus tour of all of the facalities and terminals and as a special surprise KLM towed the regular Toronto flight over to the pad for us to get up close and personal with an Airbus A330. My thanks to the wonderful staff at GTAA for a super day. Here is a link to the photos from this great day. Flickr Photostream.
